Locke
John Locke proposed the first systematic explanation of the human mind.
He published it in 1690 as An Essay Concerning Human Understanding.
Locke proposed two principles to explain the mind:
- All ideas result from the associations of other ideas, including perceptions of outer events.
- All ideas result from life experiences. There are no innate ideas; the mind begins void of ideas.
These hypotheses have constituted the paradigm of human sciences since, and have also been their greatest problem.
